Targeting buildings with aging systems and high emissions, the program offers tailored retrofit plans that combine energy efficiency and electrification, helping owners navigate the technical and financial challenges of this transition.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>MultiR\u00e9s: lessons learned from field experience<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After a successful two-year pilot phase, MultiR\u00e9s has proven that no two buildings are alike. Field experience showed that pre-packaged solutions rarely fit: each property has unique characteristics \u2014 from system design to tenant profile \u2014 requiring a tailored approach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, the pilot revealed that electrifying a building can raise project costs by up to 25% compared to conventional equipment replacements. These upgrades often don\u2019t generate enough energy savings to meet owners\u2019 expected payback timelines, making them financially unfeasible without external support. That\u2019s where MultiR\u00e9s comes in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBuilding owners are under growing pressure not only to modernize outdated systems, but also to comply with new regulations banning fossil fuel heating,\u201d says <\/span><b>Chandra Ramadurai, CEO of Efficiency Capital<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThey face particular challenges managing this shift. The MultiR\u00e9s program will help absorb costs and deploy clean technology solutions proven to benefit both owners and tenants.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>A solution designed for building owners that will have a significant impact<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The building sector accounts for <\/span><b>26% of GHG emissions in the CMM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 a major challenge for the region\u2019s climate ambitions. By supporting large-scale retrofits, the MultiR\u00e9s program offers a practical path to significantly lower emissions while improving building performance. Individual buildings smaller than 6 units are not eligible unless they are combined with several buildings under the same owner.
