Anticipating population growth in Lachine

Accompanying the transition to sustainable mobility

Lachine is one of the Montreal boroughs whose population is set to grow the most (nearly 50% by 2040), mainly with the future Lachine-Est Ecoquartier. Paradoxically, it is also one of Montreal’s most heavily motorized areas. This context represents a challenge in terms of sustainable mobility, but also an enormous opportunity.

To reduce the importance of the car, personalized promotional campaigns are needed, inspired in particular by Lyon’s demotorization project. They are designed to have a significant impact on the mobility habits of current residents and new arrivals to the district, many of whom will be investing in the Ecoquartier.

Quote from the GRAME team

At GRAME, we don’t believe that the limitations of public transit are necessarily obstacles to sustainable mobility, but rather an opportunity to maximize the supply of alternative transportation. Our Bon mouv’ project, made possible thanks to the support of funding bodies such as the Climate Fund, enables us to introduce Lachine’s population to this alternative offer, and to promote its development and adoption in the area.
