Transition Announcement

Since its incorporation in 2020, the Greater Montreal Climate Fund (GMCF) has worked to help unite and support a thriving financial and decarbonisation community. Connecting affiliated groups and partners, GMCF is poised to grow and increase our collective impact in the greater Montreal Community, as well as through the national network of Low Carbon Cities (LC3). We remain committed to this purpose and to providing support, resources, and advocacy to the larger community.

Today, we begin a new chapter at GMCF. The Board of Directors announces the departure of GMCF’s first Executive Director, Marie-Claude Bourgie. We are grateful for Ms. Bourgie’s two years of leadership and dedication to the climate through service and support, and we wish her well in her future endeavors.

Ted Kantrowitz has been appointed as Interim Executive Director, with full authority, while a search is conducted for GMCF’s next leader. Alain-Olivier Desbois, former Vice Chair of the Board, continues to serve as Interim Board Chair until elections scheduled this year.

Prior to accepting this role, Mr. Kantrowitz served as President and CEO of the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition, following a decade helping found and successfully grow that organisation to transform the heat pump industry. That work involved organisational and business development, industry and government relations, and broad work with a range of municipal provincial and federal officials. With an MBA from McGill University, since 2002 Ted has focused on climate and energy-related transactions and markets across Canada, serving on the boards of numerous industry and non-profit organizations, standards groups and steering committees. The GMCF Board is delighted Ted has agreed to continue to serve the climate community in this role ; as interim, he will continue to oversee duties as GMCF’s Programmes Director.

In doing this work together, we are united in our belief that our differences are among our strengths — by drawing on those differences, we can have real and lasting impact. Further announcements will be shared shortly.  To our members and our partners: thank you for your support through this transition.
